The first round of the 2017 NFL Draft has come and gone, with Texas running back D’Onta Foreman still available

D’Onta Foreman had a fantastic season for Texas Football in 2016. He eclipsed 2,000 yards rushing, making for a massive spike in production from the 2015 campaign. It made him one of the lone bright spots in what was a disappointing season in Austin.

Once the year ended, Texas made staff changes, but Foreman didn’t stick around for them. With is stock high, he decided to enter the 2017 NFL Draft, which began on Thursday night. Mock Drafts, like the ones seen on NFL.com, did not have Foreman going in the first round. Of course, these don’t always mean what we’re going to see on draft night. However, did any team take a chance on the 21-year-old?
Well, after 32 first-round picks, no one selected Foreman. He’ll remain on the board as we enter Round 2 and 3 on Friday night.

Two running backs were selected on Thursday night. It started with LSU’s Leonard Fournette, who went No. 4 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s coming off a successful career in Baton Rouge, which he’ll look to translate to pro football superstardom.
At No. 8, the Carolina Panthers selected Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey. He came close to the Heisman Trophy in his sophomore season, putting up historic numbers for the Cardinal.
Fournette is arguably the top running back available, as we head into Day 2. He’ll be joined by the likes of Alvin Kamara, Dalvin Cook and Joe Mixon in this range, all of whom had a case for making it into the first round, based on what they did on the field in 2016.

Tom Herman made a huge splash on Wednesday when Texas Football gained four-star recruit Ron Tatum for the 2018 class.

The defensive line is clearly the biggest area of need for Texas Football and Ron Tatum should make an immediate impact next season.
Tatum will bring the type of speed and versatility that defensive coordinator Todd Orlando uses in his scheme. And, Orlando is a big reason Tatum chose Texas over Oklahoma and other top schools.
That decision to join Tom Herman’s 2018 “RevolUTion” made an immediate impact on the recruiting rankings.

rankings. The Longhorns also improved in the 247Sports rankings.
  • Scout: Texas is ranked #13
  • 247Sports: Texas moved to $15
And, Texas only has six recruits thus far in the 2018 recruiting class. Yes, Tom Herman is just getting started after getting a commitment from Ron Tatum.
The leader in the 2018 rankings, Miami, already has 19 commits for next year’s class. Imagine how high up the board Texas will be if they sign 13 more commits.
The current break down of the recruiting class includes:
  • 5 four-star recruits
